Terms of use
The short version
- Wordaya explains words to children using an artificial intelligence. An adult holds the account; the child uses it with them.
- The answers can be wrong. They are a starting point for a conversation, not a professional answer. Read the AI disclaimer.
- It is free, and it is a beta: things will change, and features may come and go.
- Please do not attack it, scrape it, resell it, or use it to harm anyone.
- Nothing here takes away your rights under the consumer law of your own country.
Who we are, and what this is
Wordaya is operated as an independent project by a single developer, who is reachable at wordkeeper@wordaya.com. The operator's name and postal address are not published here; they will be provided to a court, a consumer body or a data protection authority on request.
By using Wordaya you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the service.
Wordaya is in beta. It is offered free of charge while it is being built out, and it changes often.
Who may use it
- The account must be held by an adult, aged 18 or over, who accepts these terms.
- Signing in uses a Google account, and Google requires its account holders to be 13 or over. A child should not hold the account.
- A child may use the service only on that adult's account and with that adult's supervision. It is designed to be used by the adult together with the child, not by a child alone, and the adult is expected to stay involved.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account, including what your child does with it.
What the service does not promise
The explanations are generated by third-party AI models, not written or checked by a person. They can be incomplete, out of date, or simply wrong, and the same word may be explained differently tomorrow. They are not advice โ not medical, legal, financial, safety or professional advice of any kind. Please read the AI disclaimer, which forms part of these terms.
Please do not
- Use Wordaya for anything unlawful, or to harm, threaten or exploit anyone.
- Try to break, overload, probe or bypass the service, including its daily limits.
- Scrape it, or access it in bulk with automated tools.
- Try to extract the underlying models, prompts or source code.
- Resell the service, or share an account as a way of giving access to others.
- Present the answers to someone else as professional advice, or as the work of a qualified person.
- Copy the app itself: the name Wordaya, its design and its code remain ours.
If an account is used in these ways we may suspend it, and we will tell you why where we reasonably can.
Limits and fair use
Reading explanations is unlimited. Generating the spoken version is limited: each tier has a daily allowance of new audio clips, and replaying a clip that has already been generated is free. The allowances are set out in the app, and current values are shown when you reach them. We may change the allowances; we will not change them retrospectively to take away something you have already used.
We also apply short-term rate limits, so that one account cannot overwhelm the service.
Your words, and our app
- The word your child types stays theirs. We do not claim ownership of it.
- The explanation generated for you is yours to use, including sharing it, subject to the terms of the AI provider that generated it.
- What we own is the app: the Wordaya name, the design, the interface and the code.
- Your word history is stored as described in the privacy policy, and you can download or delete it.
Availability and changes
We try to keep Wordaya running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or free of errors, and we may take it offline for maintenance. While it is in beta we may add, change or remove features. If we ever remove something you have paid for, we will tell you beforehand and offer a remedy.
Free now. If we start charging
Nothing is charged today. If paid features are introduced, then before any payment is taken we will update these terms and tell you:
- the price, shown with VAT included where the law requires it;
- what the paid feature does, and how long it lasts;
- the information you are entitled to before buying, including who you are buying from and how to complain;
- your right of withdrawal. As a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract. Where digital content is supplied immediately, that right ends once you have expressly agreed to immediate access and acknowledged that you lose it โ we will ask for that agreement at the point of purchase, in plain words, and not hide it in a checkbox;
- how refunds work, including any refund the law requires.
The existing free features will not become paid features without notice.
Liability
Nothing in these terms limits the rights you have as a consumer under the mandatory law of your country, and nothing limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
Beyond that, and because Wordaya is a free beta:
- we do not promise that the service will be uninterrupted, secure or error-free;
- we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of profit, goodwill or opportunity;
- we are not responsible for the accuracy of AI-generated explanations, or for decisions you or your child make after reading one;
- where liability remains, it is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which for a free service may be nothing.
Ending your use
You can stop using Wordaya at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and your word history by emailing wordkeeper@wordaya.com. We may suspend or end access if these terms are broken, if we are required to, or if we discontinue the service โ and if we discontinue it while it is still free, we will give reasonable notice so you can download your history first.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by the law of the country in which the operator is established, and disputes may be brought in its courts. That country is not named on this page; ask and we will tell you, because it decides which law applies. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer rules of the country where you live, and you may also be able to bring proceedings there.
Changes to these terms
We update these terms when the service changes, and we move the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Wordaya after a change means you accept the updated terms.
